Technology in Foreign Language Teaching

This course will acquaint students with the principles and practices concerning the use of technology in foreign language education. Its main focus will be to explore the connection between Second Language Acquisition theories and the implementation of current Internet and multimedia technologies. Specifically, we will examine ways in which technology can be used to support the development of communicative competence as learners engage in the process of acquiring another language.

Advanced Methods

This course will focus on a study of historical perspectives and recent innovations in the field of teaching of foreign languages in secondary schools.Students will be expected to examine theory and research findings as they relate to the improvement of instruction and professional leadership in education and draw implications from these for the improvement of classroom instruction. One of our goals is to help students develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate language acquisition theories, methods, teaching practices, and materials, and to reflect critically on their own teaching skills.

French 209
This course requires an enrolment key

Honors College French 209 & 210 (=SCCC263H) are different from the other sections of FR209 & 210. During the year, we will work closely with a class located in France and act as part of a collaborative project. Each of you will have at least one (and maybe two) specific French partner (corrès or keypal) with whom you will work, communicate in real time, exchange e-mails, and discuss cultural issues.

This course addresses both theoretical and practical issues related to the teaching of foreign languages. Typically, class time will be divided between the discussion of theoretical issues raised in the assigned readings and the application of theory to the implementation of foreign language teaching practices. Teaching Foreign Languages in Secondary School

This course will provide present and future teachers with an introduction to the skills, tasks, and technologies that can be used to enhance foreign language instruction.The content of the course will focus on both practical and theoretical aspects of foreign language teaching within the framework of various methods and approaches associated with foreign language instruction in secondary schools.Through peer teaching, members of the class will have the opportunity to put theory into practice and gain experience planning and teaching lessons in the target language.The seminar format requires that everyone contribute actively to class discussions where diversity of opinion is expected and encouraged.

German Composition and Conversation

The goal of German 310 is to continue to strengthen all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) while introducing you to some contemporary German culture and literature. Our class meetings will focus on practicing your spoken German and conversation skills, focusing on correct, idiomatic oral expession, while your homework will allow you to hone your writing skills.
Intermediate German

The goal of German 211 is to continue to strengthen all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) while introducing you to some contemporary German culture and literature. With your active participation and cooperation, you will improve your proficiency in the language to enable you to participate in conversations with speakers of German about a variety of topics, hone your reading strategies in German enabling you to understand and analyze authentic German texts, write longer essays based on your opinions and readings, improve your spoken and written accuracy, and learn about various aspects of the culture of German-speaking countries.
